Hydrodynamic Efficiency of a Wave Energy Converter in Front of an Orthogonal Breakwater

In the present study, hydrodynamic efficiency of a cylindrical wave energy converter (WEC) vertical symmetry axis and arranged in front reflecting orthogonal breakwater is explored. The idea based on exploiting anticipated amplification scattered reflected fields originating from presence walls, towards increasing WEC’s power absorption due to walls’ reflections. Two types converters are examined, namely heaving device oscillating water column (OWC) device, assuming linear potential theory. associated diffraction-, motion-, pressure-radiation problems solved using axisymmetric eigenfunction expansions for velocity around WECs by properly accounting field’s modification presence. To this end, theoretical formulation dealing with evaluation converter’s performance presented coupling between WEC walls. results depict that amount harvested an wall amplified compared absorbed same open sea.
